A BABY DOLPHIN FOR SEA WORLD!
Sea World has welcomed a new baby to its dolphin family with the birth of an offshore bottlenose dolphin.
Moki, a 30 year old female bottlenose dolphin gave birth to a calf, approximately one metre in length and weighing 15 kilograms, on Sunday 27 July.
The young calf is doing well, and has been observed swimming strongly and suckling milk from its mother.
Moki and the yet to be named calf have joined four month old female calf, Evie, and her Mum, Stormy, in the Dolphin Cove lagoon system.
The newborns and their mothers can be seen in residence at Sea World’s Dolphin Cove nursery lagoon following the Imagine Dolphin Show, twice daily.
Director of Marine Sciences Trevor Long said that it was wonderful to have so many successful births at Sea World.
“The Sea World dolphin breeding program is one of the world’s best and showcases how the extensive natural sandy bottom lagoon systems promote social interaction, breeding and nursing by the dolphins”, he said.
